IV Services

Skilled Care Pharmacy provides support for residents with IV and infusion therapy needs

Typically, “infusion therapy” means that a drug is administered intravenously, but the term also may refer to situations where drugs are provided through other non-oral routes. It is typically prescribed when a patient’s condition is such that it cannot be treated effectively by oral medications. Skilled Care Pharmacy nursing, education and pharmacy services provide the support, devices and technical assistance you need to confidently offer IV services to residents.

Nursing services

Skilled Care Pharmacy’s nationally certified infusion nurses are trained and experienced in managing IV therapies such as antibiotics, total parenteral nutrition (TPN), hydration, chemotherapy and pain management. Our clinicians are proficient in the placement of all types of IV catheters and provide IV starts and restarts upon your request.

Education and technical support services

The expertise of our infusion nursing staff enables us to provide both the education and technical support necessary for managing IV patients. Our CE approved seminars have been developed to update knowledge and skills vital for all health care professionals. If desired, individual on-site instruction may be arranged at any time.

IV / Pharmacy services

Skilled Care Pharmacy’s specially trained and experienced team of IV pharmacists and IV technicians provide the clinical and support services that are required for safe and effective management of today's infusion therapies. We follow the “best practices” guidelines published by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) regarding professional standards for compounding sterile products as required in the recently updated USP Chapter 797.

Our pharmacists are available for antibiotic therapy recommendation, monitoring and dosage adjustment; to formulate and adjust IV nutritional support and to provide support for other infusion therapies such as catheters, injections and epidurals. We can assist you in the selection of appropriate IV access devices and supplies, such as electronic infusion pumps, and can provide technical assistance by phone when necessary. Skilled Care Pharmacy pharmacists are available 24/7 to discuss infusion medication, including administration techniques, compatibility and precautions related to potential interactions and adverse reactions.
