Facility Interview with Administrator Barry Banker:

 

Stewart Home School was nominated for their uniqueness in their field, outstanding partnership with their vendors, dedication to quality, and care about the customers they service that extend well past their four walls. 

 

Stewart Home was founded in 1893 by Dr. John Quincy Adams Stewart to provide an educational opportunity for intellectually disabled children and adults, now in it's fifth generation of family ownership.  It serves 378 students from 38 states and 4 foreign countries utilizing the skills and talents of 145 outstanding employees.

 

What is something special you would like us to know about your facility or your staff? 

Stewart Home School embraces each student and staff person as a gift from God and strives to provide an environment wherein everyone is given constant opportunity to grow and become all he or she can be. 

 

What is your favorite story related to this facility or your staff? 

In the midst of a school wide event, when things quieted down, one student stood up and joyously proclaimed, "I LOVE MY LIFE!", and everyone yelled in agreement!

 

Awards and Commendations:

• In 2003 the Senate and the House of Representatives of Kentucky issued proclamations declaring Stewart Home School to be "worthy of preservation and approval into perpetuity." 
• The campus is on the National Register Of Historic Places as designated by the U.S. Department of Interior.

 

Community Involvement:

Stewart Home School participates in local churches, volunteers at the soup kitchen, is a site for "Leadership Frankfort" training and gives students' interns from high school, colleges, and other interested programs practicum experiences.  The school is a member of The Frankfort Chamber Of Commerce and is a member of the National Association Of Private Special Education Centers.
