Westminster-Thurber Community is a faith-based, continuing-care retirement community that has been serving older adults and their families since 1965. We serve 360 elders in seven areas and levels of care. The 300 full- and part-time employees live out our daily mission, that is to provide caring and quality services toward the enhancement of physical, mental and spiritual well-being consistent with the Christian Gospel.

 

What is something special you would like us to know about your facility or your staff?
Westminster-Thurber Community became a registered Eden Alternative Home in 2000. We are proud to say that we have over 50 certified Eden Associates among our staff and are continually educating our employees and the general public about the Eden Alternative and culture change in eldercare. Satisfaction surveys continue to highlight the friendly atmosphere and welcoming spirit of our community.

 

What is your favorite story related to this facility or your staff?
In December of 2009, a handful of direct care staff created a “Christmas Ball” with formal attire for our elders in the Healthcare Center. They collected donations of dresses, suits, lunch and entertainment for 90 elders and their families.

 

Awards and Commendations:
We are the only community in Central Ohio to hold the Person-Centered Care Accommodation from CARF-CCAC. Westminster-Thurber Community is one of only 400 nationally recognized CCRC’s who are accredited by CARF-CCAC.

 

In 2008, we hosted the 4th International Eden Alternative Conference where we received the Master Gardener Award. Also in 2008, Westminster-Thurber was the recipient of the AAHSA “Excellence in the Workplace” Award.

 

Community Involvement:
Westminster-Thurber hosts various educational, spiritual and cultural events that are open to the community. We are the clinical site for various colleges and universities for several disciplines including nursing, social work and dining. We also provide an active speaker’s bureau that is available to speak on a variety of health and aging interest topics. Additionally, Westminster-Thurber is associated with the exercise physiology and music departments of The Ohio State University.
